The "Who Dares" team has won a national competition to revitalise the Carnisse neighbourhood of Rotterdam. In the "Who Dares" team, seven socially committed organisations work together. These include de Architekten Cie, Ballast Nedam Development and Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance.
The competition, named "Who Cares", is an initiative of Chief Architect ("Rijksbouwmeester") Floris Alkemade. The objective is to come up with new ideas by linking the increasing need for healthcare to urban sustainability. Several dozens of multidisciplinary teams participated in the competition, twenty of which made it to the second round. The winners were announced this afternoon
According to the judges, the "Who Dares" team bridged the gap between care and sustainability with a flexible plan for the total transformation of Carnisse, including a realistic business case. In the words of the "Who Cares" team: "A beloved neighbourhood is a sustainable neighbourhood. We dream of a Carnisse for everyone; caring and dynamic, diverse and vital, a constant in iconic Rotterdam. We are ready to offer Carnisse a great future."
